2011
marks the 100th anniversary of a milestone year in the history of
the Winnipeg Robert Burns Club. 1911 was the year the decision was
taken to erect a statue to Robert Burns, an effort, interrupted
by the First World War, which concluded 25 years later, in the heart
of the depression, with the unveiling of the statue that stands
on the grounds of Manitoba's Legislature.
1911
was also the year that the club joined the Burns Federation, making
it the oldest,
continuously federated Burns Club outside the United Kingdom.
The conference will be held, entirely, within the hotel, with breakfasts
and both Friday and Saturday dinners being held in the beautiful
Churchill's - the location of the club's monthly luncheons, and
the meetings, seminars and quiz on the Mezzanine Level.
We do expect that the Sunday worship service will be held off site,
at a historic Winnipeg church,
and will provide return transportation which will include a visit
to the Burns Statue.
Ancillary events to coincide with the conference (historic tours
etc) are being explored and developed.
The
organizing committee has secured a very attractive rate from the
hotel for accommodation. Further information on the program &
registration fees will be available after the first of the year.
